Swim Team Activities

Attending the board meeting was Karen Aitkens Co-President (532-0606) and Todd Beeck Co-President (734-5135) of the New Mark Swim Team, which was the focus of the board meeting.

This was a follow-up to a meeting held last winter to go over the Swim Teams use of the pool for the season and to address issues and concerns between both parties.

The board addressed issues of parking on the grass in the greenway and asked if the swim team could have someone patrol prior to the meet to make sure no one is parked on the grass.

The board asked if it would be feasible to possibly practice one week at another pool to give our pool a rest. The Swim team felt this would be hardship as other pools they have access to for practices are not the same length, do not have lanes marked and buoys for the lanes. Many kids also ride their bikes to practice so they may or may not be able to ride to another pool and would have to remember to go to the other pool.

The board requested they end practice by 10:00 AM instead of the current 10:30 per a request from Fred due to the lifeguards getting the pool ready to open by 11:00 AM for Home Association members. The Swim Team would like more information on the reason for the request. The board will put together a list of the reasons and concerns from the Home Association viewpoint.

The Swim Team would like us to notify them more often about problems throughout the swim season instead of waiting until the end of the year as is current practice. They would also like to have yellow paint on the step up on the Men's restroom. Towel holders and paper towel dispensers were also requested to be added to the rest rooms. The Swim Team brought to the Boards attention a board that is either loose or starting to rot on the cabana steps which needs to be repaired. Also requested getting an exterminator to spray the restrooms.

The board also brought up the issue of trash overflowing in the dumpsters after swim meets. We may need to get a larger Dumpster or continue having the Dumpster emptied after each swim meet.

We also discussed charging a flat fee for the use of the pool instead of the current charge of so much for every person that does not live within the Home Association. With the current way we charge; if every kid on the team lived in the Home Association we would get no fee at all for the use of the pool. The board will address this at the next board meeting.

The board will also notify the Swim Team as soon as possible with information regarding rates and other issues discussed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM.
